Week 2, Weekend project - Alternative Image Making
Okay,this one was difficult.
We had to choose a recognisable household object (teapot, spade, fork etc.) and 'draw' it without using traditional materials. They said draw but that was just as decieving as the idea of 'drawing week' that ill get to later. Apparently drawing can mean photography, projection, casts/sculpture...
As you can see I chose a honey dipper.
The shape is a bit thin so the wax version broke into 5 pieces when I was trying to get it out of the cast.
Week 2 - Map Project
Ahh the Map project.
Basically we spent a day or so wandering around mmu finding and photographing different buildings and then had to come up with a creative, but not necessarily coherent or functional map. We then had 1 day to make it in the studio space. I made what I intended to be a Birdcage but it ended up looking a bit more like a hat...
The idea was to make the buildings on the outside fade by printing on tracing and graph paper, and the inside of my map/hat was the colourful contents of the different areas of the art school. But I suppose you can make up your own mind over whether or not it could function as a headdress.

Week 1 - Pets on Location project
As a summer project we had to create a sculpture of a 'pet' or animal that reflected us in some way. I chose a Pangolin because, well, they roll up in a ball if threatened...and theyre adorable.
On Induction day we were given our next project which was to photography our pets in the style of 3 different film genres/specific films. I chose 1950's Sci Fi B Movies, Fantasy and Documentary since frankly I thought a Pangolin might look a bit out of place in Film Noir...The films I used specifically were: War of the Worlds, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Koyaanisqatsi...yeah, have fun trying to say that name out loud.
Oh and we didnt get away with having just one project during freshers week, oh no, we also had to make a camera manual with examples of every setting on our fancy cameras. But I shouldnt complain, it was pretty interesting, even if it does mean my camera only manually focuses now...sigh.

Initial info
Why, Hello there!
I'm Rosie and this is the blog I've started to document my Art Foundation year at MMU...
aaaand now the official bit is over, back to actual blogging.
I started this blog a bit late, seeing as the first 2 months have already flown by, but all the information is still there for me to talk about, so I'm sorry for the massive amount of images that I'll probably post all at once.
As for me, I like reading, films, music and obviously art. The last book I read was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by the wonderfully strange Hunter S Thompson. The last film I watched was Withnail and I on dvd, now I'm a student theres no money for cinema trips anymore, sigh. As for music, at the moment I've been listening to an odd mix of 70s folk (Duncan Browne - Journey, in particular) and Biggie Smalls...I can't really offer any further explanation for that I'm afraid.
Hope you enjoy my Blog!
